Chillax, it’s a *hobby*

…Listen, if I’m the one telling you to chill, you should probably chill 😅

Some people treat their hobbies very seriously.

And while, on one hand, passion is awesome! On the other hand… some people need to chillax. It’s a hobby.

I find this sometimes with craft: people get too caught up in ‘supposed to’s.

“The pattern says this and I don’t like it!”

“Have you tried… stay with me here… doing it differently?”

“But the pattern says!”

“Honey, the pattern is not the boss of you. If it doesn’t suit you, don’t do it.”

“But then it won’t be the pattern!”

“ — no, but then you’ll actually like it.”

And while I don’t consider writing a hobby so much as a vital life process, the point stands here, too.

“I want to do this writing challenge, but I don’t like the genre they picked!”

“OK, is that the submission rules?”

“No, it’s all informal.”

“…Then do the genre you want?”

*gasps*
