Cool post - I mostly self-publish, with the occasional submission to smaller pubs. This is mostly b/c I cross-post from my personal blog, or repurpose/adapt content from said blog. A lot of pubs want completely fresh pieces, which mine aren't.

I also don't really have the time to deal with figuring out if/what pubs are appropriate for each piece - I know my posts are often... um... weird, tbh... - so I don't want to have to try to fit myself into boxes which just aren't for me.

I'm also used to absolutely everything being on my shoulders with blogging, so it's automatic to me to just do everything myself - the fact that I sometimes submit to small pubs at all is actually something I'm proud of myself for :)
