Not so long ago I wrote a short story called ‘Girl, Alone’:

It was set in a future where the environment is very not-good; the temperature and air quality have made the world hazardous to travel in, especially for those with chronic health conditions.

Reading the lovely Carrie’s piece about the smoke from the Canadian wildfires drifting over the US and the affect on her mental health of having to stay inside… I have to think that the main character of my dystopian short story would recognise the world many of us are living in today.

And that’s both sad, and terrifying.
