I know it's hard with the little green sign clamouring for attention, but try to limit dealing with your notifications to one specific time a day. I've found that it's better for me to give an hour to it in the evening - as much as the little bell plays on my brain. Sometimes I click it just to get rid of the notification sign, don't actually deal with them, and then go back to them later.
