I think this is a learned behaviour in a lot of us in the LGB TQ+ community - we have spent our lives assessing how safe it is (either emotionally or physically,) to be wholly and fully ourselves in any given situation. Some of us have never been able to be wholly and fully ourselves. Some of us (...me,) don't even really know what it's like to be fully and wholly ourselves, because we spent so long denying it.

So sometimes that habit of camouflage malfunctions - or gets powered to 11, depending on your perspective - and we don't know how to turn it off in situations where it's probably OK for us to do so.
