I'm sorry... kids in the US only learn to read at the age of 7???

When I was in school in the UK we started learning to read (i.e. sounding out words, learning letters, learning what sounds letters make when they're put together, getting our first 'reading books' to read to the teacher) in reception. Which is about 5-ish, I think? So, 7 seems super-late.

Maybe you just have a larger international audience than you thought? Lol.
