Is Medium A Content Mill? 🤔

I keep changing my mind

I’m not sure whether to count Medium as a content mill.

Content mills are platforms which churn out a lot of content in order to feed the appetite of search engines for quantity and novelty.

They’re similar to content farms, but not the same — they tend to rely on millers to do the grinding (yes, grinding, think about that,) rather than paying a set number of farm-hands and managing the crops themselves.

(…I hope that made sense, because I’m not re-writing it.)

Medium Goddess Kristina God seems to think Medium falls well within the ‘content mill’ label.

I don’t think Medium sees itself as a content mill — otherwise why bother emphasising quality so much?

(Unless it’s a double-bluff, I guess.)

Me? I’m not so sure Medium’s that easy to categorise.

It sits in a weird category all its own.

(And I have to applaud that — because same.)
