The Rules To Follow

…and the ones which are only there to protect the status quo

There are times when the rules fit —

(especially, like, laws — don’t break those, ideally. #ResponsibleAdult)

— and times when they don’t.

Some rules are there for a reason — to protect yourself or others.

A lot of these are (…should be,) common sense like… don’t tombstone (a British form of cliff-jumping.)

Others are there because other people know more than you do — get vaccinated because the science is sound, even if you don’t understand it.

Other rules… they’re there to protect the status quo.

Even if the status quo isn’t something that should be protected.

This especially relates to social rules that are there purely for conformity’s sake.

Things like ‘marriage is between a man and a woman’ or ‘girls like pink’ are examples of this cr*p.

…It genuinely scares me how many people don’t like the rules which protect people, but will enforce the arbitrary ones with an iron fist.
