‘Why are they in the hotel from The Shining, tho?’: Thoughts on Episode 1 of Loki
Disney+’s Loki, episode 1, was cool -
(don’t worry this is a SPOILER-free zone)
— like the first episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (TFATWS,) it showed a lot of promise.
Fingers crossed, it delivers!
(Yes, I am an episode behind, so no SPOILERS please.)
And Loki was confirmed as Gender-Fluid!
(No, that’s not a SPOILER, because Queer identities are not SPOILERS, and Loki has been all kinds of Queer in the comics for a long time — this is the correction of some b*llsh** Cis/Straight-washing. #NowYaKnow)
Well, kinda confirmed as Gender-Fluid. It was an easter egg. In Loki’s file at the Time Variants Authority (TVA) if you look really close, it says ‘Sex — Fluid’.
Hopefully we’ll get more explicit acknowledgement of this — because Tom Hiddleston seems like he’d be on board, from interviews he’s done, and because I am f**king watching you, Marvel, after the sh** you pulled with TFATWS 😒
It also looks like we’re gonna get the kind of timestream f**kery that makes me give up on trying to follow canon and just go with it.
Honestly, I have no idea how people follow every single detail of all the timelines, alternates, retcons, etc., in the comics — I just shrug and go with it! Lol.

I gotta know: why are they in the hotel from The Shining, tho?
Cos we’d seen it in the trailer, so I thought I’d be prepared and not as distracted as I was. (I was very distracted. 😅)
Like, do the all-powerful time beings in charge like the Kubrick movie that much?! Cos that’s not unnerving in the slightest, y’know?
(Also, I know I over-relate to fictional characters, but Loki dealing with all the batsh** TVA Kafkaesque bureaucracy was 600% me.)
Americans watching Loki episode 1: Oh man, that D B Cooper reference!
International people: Uh… yuh-yeah, woo, reference!
That reference was, it was a reference, alright, can’t get more referential than that…
*tabs over to open Google, types in ‘wtf is D B Cooper?’*
*stares for a while*
- America, what the hell?
