...You know those aren't good things, right? They are, in fact, horrible, crazy, and stupid reasons to allow civilians to have guns.

We're in Europe, we've had crossbows for longer than the US has been a country. It just means if someone has one without a licence (or has one full stop if a complete ban is in force,) then you know it's illegal and can take it off them immediately. Like we do with guns. Which we've also had since before the US was a country.
